With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Shirley Midgett Shannon of Manteo, North Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on June 9, 2025 at the age of 86. She was predeceased by: her parents, Salina Gray Midgett and Calvin Midgett; her husband Carlton Aldridge "Jackie" Shannon, Sr.; and her siblings, Geneva M. Midgett and Feldon Midgett.
She is survived by: her sons, Carlton A. "Jackie" Shannon, Jr. (Karen) of Charlotte, NC and John Shannon of Manteo, NC; and her granddaughters, Kathleen Shannon of Celebration, FL, Emily Shannon of Orlando, FL and Mary Shannon of Durham, NC. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 28th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Outer Banks Chapel - Twiford Funeral Homes (500 Budleigh St, Manteo, NC 27954). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 28th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Mount Olivet United Methodist Church (https://mountolivetumc.org), PO Box 787, Manteo, NC 27954, to continue Shirley's legacy of faith and community service.
