He was predeceased by: his parents, Vannie Springer Shirley and Hugh Cliff; his sister Shirley Lovvorn; and also Eloise Shirley. He is survived by: his wife Linda Tyra Shirley; his daughters, Sonja Smith (Harold) and Suzette Endris (Will); his grandchildren, Kyle Smith (Amber) and Cameron Endris; and his great grandchildren, Paxton Smith and Saylor Smith.
