She was predeceased by: her parents, Charlie Gardin and Mary Ann Conley Gardin; her husband James Robert Shade; and her siblings, James Gardin, Sr., Fred Gardin, Marshall Gardin, Charlie Mae Gardin, Josephine Gillin, Elizabeth Halloway, Zlema Grey and Betty Gardin Greenlee.
She is survived by: her daughter Lisa Johnson (Juan) of Morganton; her sister Delores Gardin Mashburn of Marion; her grandchildren, Nicole Faison, William Gardin, Jr., Marcus Gardin, Stephanie Kete Ebam, Genevieve Alexis Gardin, Darius Shade and Ashley Shade; and her close friend Vernon Silver.
