He was predeceased by: his parents, Grover Bascom and Ola Myrtle Benfield Holtzclaw; and his siblings, Virginia Callahan, Helen Fisher, Pauline Bartlett, Madeline Weinhold, Grover B. Holtzclaw Jr. and Richard LeGrande Holtzclaw.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Lou Brock Holtzclaw; his children, Charles Winford Holtzclaw, Jr. (Paula), Carol Denise Holtzclaw and Lou Anne Holtzclaw McBride (Roy); his grandchildren, Charles Grover Holtzclaw (Paula), Sara Belle Harper (Kyle), Foreste Marie Hess, Winford Brock Holtzclaw (Sophia), Samara Li Jing McBride and Elijah Jian Xi McBride; and his great grandchildren, Perry, Hadley Holtzclaw, Avery, Eli Harper, Lily Hess and Charlie Holtzclaw.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte NC 28204.
