He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Elmer Wilson, Sr. and Nellie Davidson Wilson; his grandson Brice Rummage; his daughter-in-law Kym Smith Wilson; and his sister Phyllis Wilson Sipley.

He is survived by: his children, Larry Wilson, Cindy Crone (John) and Amy Edwards (Mark); his brother George Wilson (Karen); his grandchildren, Erin Maynard (Scott), Kelly Dye, Kimberly Huntley (Trey), Julie Watson (Michael) and Kara Speice (Nolan); and his great grandchildren, Laurel Dye, Noah Maynard, Hudson Dye, Ronan Dye, Leila Watson, Logan Huntley, Ivy Speice and Sage Watson.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages memorial contribution to be made to Broad Street Church of Mooresville, honoring Normans' commitment to his faith and community.

“Norman was a very caring man and the only Civitan Governor with a lake named for him. During our trip in 1991 driving two vans for Special Olympics North Carolina to Minnesota for World Games was a great experience for Norman, the now late Curtis Farlow, Jim Bullard and myself. Every morning Norman had to have his Hersey bar. Caring for Special Olympics athletes, fellow Civitan members and clubs everywhere, his own community and most definitely his family was and continues to be an inspiration.”
