He was predeceased by : his parents, Earl Hinson and Cora Hinson; his siblings, Carl Hinson, Rita and Laura; and his sons, Joel and Matthew.

He is survived by : his wife Betsy Garner Hinson; his daughters, Tracy Alpert (Jack) of Newport and Kay Hallie (Jamie) of Illinois; and his brothers, Ray Hinson (Barbara) of Tennessee, Morris Hinson (Gail) of Michigan and Charles "Chuck" Hinson (Cindy) of Michigan.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 22nd 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Munden Funeral Home & Crematory (2112 Arendell St, Morehead City, NC 28557). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 22nd 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, May 22nd 2024 at the Gethsemane Memorial Park (700 NC-24, Newport, NC 28570).
