He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Jennings; his son Paul L. Jennings; and his parents, Willie Jennings and Mary Jennings. He is survived by: his children, Joyce V. Smith of Morehead City and Richard W. Jennings (Debra) of Stella. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to First United Methodist Church at 900 Arendell St., Morehead City, NC 28557.
