He was predeceased by: his parents, James Otis Tallent and Ethel Mull Tallent; and his sister Modean Smith. He is survived by: his wife Sherrie Lowman Tallent; his son Scotty Tallent (Monica); his grandson Noah; his son Brandon Tallent (Christy); his grandchildren, Tyler, Stormie, Justin and Sammy; his great grandchild Briella Grace; and his siblings, Ted, Allen Tallent, Betty Kincaid, Faye Bailey and Nancy Pearson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
