He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James Phillip and Mary C. Avery; his son James Maurice Avery; his mother-in-law Hattie M. Corpening; his wife Geneva C. Avery; his daughter Cheré Evome Avery Thomas (James); his adoptive daughters, Latoya Mathes, Sherry Littlejohn and Bria Corpening; and his siblings, Rosa Rutherford, Mary Alice Francis, Fannie Ervin (Phillip), Anna Davenport, Vanesse Johnson (Bobby), Deborah Tate, Melody Avery and Vernon Ray Avery. He was also cherished by nieces and nephews.
