He is survived by: his daughter Christy Mays (Richie) of Morganton; his grandson Landon Mays; his siblings, Edward Eugene Self, Mildred Self Thames and Patsy Ann Self Stamey; and his close friends, Allen Milligan, Janie Patton and Jay. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and extended family.
