He was predeceased by: his parents, James William Mays and Nell Hawkins Parson; his brothers, James and Jeffery Mays; and his granddaughter Madison Nunley.
He is survived by: his wife Linda Grosser Mays; his children, Tami Morris (Eric) of Granite Falls, Lori Mays (Will Knight) of North Wilkesboro and Richie Mays (Christy) of Morganton; his siblings, Rita Pritchard (Bobby) of Conover and Ronnie Mays of Elizabethton, TN; and his grandchildren, Scotty, Melea, Brittney, Landon and Mckayla. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
