He was predeceased by : his parents, Ray Thomas and Musether P. Byrd; and his son Rodney Smith. He is survived by : his children, Bryan Simmons (Terrilyn), Miari Simms (Dwayne), Veda Smith and Vicki Mclean (Johnny Jerome); his sisters, Lillian Byrd and Carolyn Byrd; his grandchildren, Ryan Simmons, Greyson Simms, Johnny Mclean Jr. and Jerome Mclean; and his aunts, Kathrine Cathey of Atlanta, Willette Parsons of Wadesboro, NC and Eva Knight of Baltimore, Maryland.. He is also survived by brothers and sisters and friends.
