He was predeceased by: his parents, John Joseph and May White Barnes. He is survived by: his children, Patricia Barnes Tyson, George Barnes of Florida and John Barnes of Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Harry John Barnes to the American Legion Post 96, PO Box 712, Murphy, NC 28906.
