With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joseph Odell Smithwick Sr. of Newport, North Carolina, who passed away on December 26, 2020 at the age of 84. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Smithwick and Eva Smithwick; and his siblings, Faye Morrison, Alice Judkins and Henry Gibbs Smithwick.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Allen Smithwick; his children, Eva Maria Smith (Ira William Long, Jr.) of Newport, Joseph Odell Smithwick, Jr. of Newport and Howard "Allen" Smithwick (Robin) of Newport; and his grandson Tyler Joseph Smithwick.

In keeping with the CDC guidelines pertaining to the Coronavirus, those who are ill or at-risk (elderly, immune-compromised) are encouraged to stay home.
