With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Gary Lee Fortwengler of Newton, North Carolina, who passed away on February 5, 2022 at the age of 61. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by : his parents, John Edward and Madge Laverne Strickland Fortwengler. He is survived by : his wife Ann Fortwengler; his pets, King, Chiweenie and Jezzie; his children, Emily Hinton, Adam Fortwengler, Hannah Rainey and Caleb Fortwengler; his grandchildren, Avery Hinton, Taylor Hinton, Carter Hinton, Reiley Hinton, Addison Hinton, Rayla Fortwengler, Nora Fortwengler, Isaiah Mincer and Hazel Jo Rainey; his stepdaughter Shannon Mincer; his siblings, Mary Jackson (David) and Terry Fortwengler (Diane); and also, Roderick Ferguson and Joe Rainey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like time to grieve his passing privately and then celebrate with friends and family the way Gary would have wanted. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made in Gary's honor to COVID research at the Mayo Clinic or to the American Lung Association.
