He was predeceased by: his parents, D. Steve Poteat and Nettie Carroll Poteat; and his brother Bobby Poteat. He is survived by: his wife Faye Rowland Poteat; his son D. Steve Poteat, Jr.; his brothers, Charlie Poteat (Janice H.), Reuben Poteat (Janice B.) and Tony Poteat (Vickie); his aunts, Bernice Carroll Goodson and Judy Carroll; and his sister-in-law Ruth Williams. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
