She was predeceased by: her parents, Ludwig Merz and Elisabetha Stay Merz; and her husband Alec Cary Sumner. She is survived by: her daughters, Sherry Akers of Raeford and Vicki Akers Strickland (Marvin) of Raeford; her grandchildren, Tabitha Leviner (Richard), James A. Martin, Harley Ray Jones (Sarah), Joe Nathan Jones (Bethany) and Shane Joseph Strickland; her sister Lieselotte Zwally of Germany; R. T. Boan. She is also survived by ten great – grandchildren.
