He was predeceased by: his son Michael Allen Chavis; and his siblings, Tex Chavis, Tony Chavis, Joan Goodman and Judy McNeill.
He is survived by: his significant other Joanna Sammons of Maxton; his sons, Quentin Sammons of Maxton and Bryan Sammons (Nikki) of Maxton; his uncles, Dewey Howard and Danny Howard; and his sibling's children, Russell Chavis of Red Springs and Tina Maynard (Rodney) of Red Springs. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many extended family.
