He was predeceased by: his parents, David P. Farthing and Eva Roberts Farthing; and his siblings, Billie Farthing Foster, Robert Farthing, Junior Farthing and Roger Farthing.
He is survived by: his children, Wendy Gayle Mitchell (Michael) of Greensboro and Charlie Wayne Smith; his grandchildren, Kristan Patterson Cooke (Paul) of Eden and Christopher Smith (Gina) of Wilmington; his great grandchildren, Joel and Charlie Smith of Wilmington; his siblings, Richard Farthing of Yanceyville, Linda Watlington of South Boston, Virginia and Carolyn McNeely of Shelby; and the mother of his children Betty Mays (J. R.) of Reidsville. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, July 19th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
