He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Phillips and Ethel Roberts Phillips; his wife Emogene Carpenter Phillips; his children, Ellen Phillips, Karen Phillips Webster, David Phillips and Michael Phillips; and his siblings, Jessie Mae Grindstaff, Bunavee Carpenter, Alowayne Smith, Patty Sue Phillips, Herbert Phillips, Emmett Phillips and Don Phillips.
He is survived by: his daughter Sandy; his son-in-law Gary Williams of Robbinsville, NC; his son Darrell; his daughter-in-law Jamie Phillips of Robbinsville, NC; and his siblings, Edna Cox, Ann Keith and James Phillips. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
