He was predeceased by: his parents, Garland Kanipe and Wilma Hudson Kanipe; his wife Mary Melton Kanipe; his siblings, Franklin Kanipe and Lottie Barbee; and his son-in-law Tom Chavis.
He is survived by: his daughter Blenda Chavis of Winston Salem; his granddaughters, Kayle Barbur (Adam), Brandy Hall (Paul) and Courtney Psomadakis (Brandon); his great grandchildren, Bayleigh, Kylee Henneman, Grady, Abbey, Wells Hall and Claire Psomadakis; and his sister Louise Renfroe.
