He was predeceased by: his parents, Cornelius Ross Hairston Yourse and Robert Hairston, Sr.; his son James Hairston, Jr.; and his sister Claudette Hampton. He is survived by: his siblings, Robert Hairston, Jr., Thomas Hairston, Charles Hairston, Sr. and Mary Winchester; his wife Annie Bell Obey Hairston; his children, Gloria Jean Hairston DeJournette (Jimmy), Evelyn Thompson, Patricia Diane Harris (Calvin), Florence Hairston and Rev. Larry Hairston; his siblings-in-law, Ruby Ann Obey, Edward Obey and James Hampton; and his close friends, Ronnie Moore, Glinda Blackwell, Betty Mills and Melinda Obey. He is also survived by grandchildren; great-grandchildren.
