He was predeceased by: his parents, John Edward and Ida Mae Wallace Smith; and his wife Barbara Kirk Smith. He is survived by: his daughters, Karen Smith of Rockingham and Pamela Smith (Mandi Parker) of Wilmington; his granddaughter Hayley Gordon (Chip) of Hamlet; and his great grandchildren, Kirkley Adams Gordon and Jesse Phillip "JP" Gordon.
