He was predeceased by: his parents, Nannie Pickard Bigelow and Reuben Essaw Bigelow; and his sister Thelma Bigelow. He is survived by: his sister Gaynell Blackwell (Larry); his aunts, Jennie White (Eddie) and Patricia Watlington; his uncle Edward Watlington (Tammy); his nieces and nephews, Terry Blackwell (Tori), Felicia Blackwell, April Blackwell, Shonda Blackwell (Devin) and A. J. Blackwell; his close friend Hazel King; and his grandchildren, Jessica, Miranda and Michael Carter. He is also survived by cousins, other relatives and friends.
