He was predeceased by: his parents, James E. Hardee Sr. and Shirley Robinson Hardee. He is survived by: his wife Faye Williams Hardee; his son James "Jim" Edward Hardee III (Ashley); his granddaughter Hayven Hardee of Battleboro; his brother Jeffery Hardee (Kelly) of Spartanburg, SC; and his pet Calcutta. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, his family has asked that donations be directed to the Battleboro Community Volunteer Fire Department PO Box 607 Battleboro NC, 27809 or Battleboro United Methodist Church PO Box 178 Battleboro NC 27809.
