She was predeceased by: her parents, Ted Smith and Inez Petty Smith; her husband Walter Lee Short; her daughter Amy Parton Berry; her siblings, John Henry Smith, Shirly Moore and Leita Smith; and her children-in-law, Allen Wayne Parton and Susan Parton.
She is survived by: her children, Avis Short Parton of Rutherfordton, Linc Parton McDaniel (Robert) of Rutherfordton and Lane Parton of Waynesville; and her siblings, Mary Ingle of Henrietta, Jo Hatfield of Gastonia, Barbara Thompson of Charlotte, Rita Agnell of Rutherfordton, Vickie Crosswhite of Rutherfordton, Libby Parton of Rutherfordton, Willie Smith of Rutherfordton and Kenneth Smith of Rutherfordton. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
