He was predeceased by: his father Harold Monroe Gaines. He is survived by: his mother Donna Marie Stackpole (John); his wife Amanda; his children, Colby Thornton of Nashville, TN, Colin, Anna Liese, Sophia Gaines and Mike Williams of Gastonia, NC; his stepmother Alyce Gaines; his sister Amy Gaines (James); his nephews, Braysen and Landon; his brother Jonathan McNeill (Ryan); his siblings' children, Kensley and Decklan; his mother-in-law Glenda Jenkins (Jim); his sister-in-law Melody Poole (Carl); his nieces, Adrienne and Caroline of Moore, SC; and his children, Piper and Chuck Bass. He is also survived by several loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
