He was predeceased by: his parents, Barney Abbott and Lucy Evans Abbott; his wife Eleanor Pearce Abbott; and his daughter Carolyn Stearns. He is survived by: his daughter Dianne Abbott Thorne (Jimmy) of Smithfield; his son-in-law Donald Stearns of Smithfield; his siblings, Esther Abbott Anderson (Donald Ray) of Zebulon and Clarence Abbott of Tarboro; and his grandchildren, Daniel Stearns (Valerie), Laura Dale (Colin), Kelly Murphy (Michael) and Jamie Johnson (Brandon). He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren.
