He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Ayers and Wilma Ayers; his brother-in-law Ralph Carter; and his niece Susan Annette Carter. He is survived by: his wife Lucy F. Ayers; his son Shane Sexton (Angie) of Sparta; his grandson Peyton Sexton; his sister Sylvia Ayers Carter of Elkin; his nephew Keith Carter (Michelle) of Dobson; his niece Kim Carter of Hamptonville; his great-nephew Corey Hawkins; his great-nieces, Victoria Carter and Brooke Knott; and his brother Jerry Wilson.
