He was predeceased by: his parents, Spencer G. Goodwin Sr. and Alma Padgett Goodwin; his wife Eva Dean Jolly Goodwin; his son Samuel Clyde Goodwin; his grandson Benjamin Zachary Padgett; and his sister Pauline Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, 907 Friendship Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
