He was predeceased by: his parents, James, Sr. Toomer and Edna Earl Littleton Toomer; his son-in-law Edward Felts, Jr.; his sister-in-law Cheryl Toomer; and his grandchild Ashley James.
He is survived by: his wife Katie Humphrey Toomer; his children, Tamala Felts, Rebecca James (John), Sharon Rhue (Allen), Karen Young (Mark) of Cedar Point, NC. and Edward Toomer (Raelene); and his brother Timothy Toomer of Mount Clemens. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
