He was predeceased by: his parents, Bonnell Ray and June Ray; and his brother Michael Ray. He is survived by: his wife Tina Ray; his sister-in-law Brenda Johnson; his nephew Allen Ray (Jessica); his great-niece Hannah Ray; and his siblings-in-law, Teresa Holt (Tony) and Thomas Hopkins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hopkins and Ray Engineering and Technology Endowed Scholarship at Western Carolina University.
