She was predeceased by: her parents, Averitt Gary and Bernice Bryant Hayes; and her siblings, Billy Hayes, Michael Hayes, Jerry Hayes and Joanne Hayes Floyd.
She is survived by: her husband William Bernice Gerald; her children, Russell Gerald (Melody) of Raleigh, NC and Kathy Gerald Stocks (Mark) of Tabor City; her sisters, Jean Garrell, Judy Windham and Melanie McDowell (Harry); her grandchildren, Emily Tomasik (Tyler) of Chapel Hill, Mary Olivia Gerald of Raleigh and Grayson Stocks of Raleigh; and her great grandchild Shepherd Hayes Tomasik.
