He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Joseph Barnes and Mary Louise Basemore; his daughter Marcia Kaye Barnes; his brother James Barnes; his nephew Milton; and also Sawyer.
He is survived by: his stepchildren, Sandra Winchester (Robert) of Tarboro, Johnny Sumerlin (Teresa) of Tarboro, Bobby Sumerlin of Tarboro, Billy Sumerlin (Terry) of Denton, NC, Raymond Sumerlin of Washington, NC and Tommy Sumerlin (Sarah) of Florence, SC; and his niece Melinda B. Dunn (Wesley) of Fuquay-Varina. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren.
