He was predeceased by: his parents, Jay Carlton and Carmen Sharpe Gant; and his son Tony Austin Gant. He is survived by: his wife Carol Stikeleather; his children, Julie Grimes (Richard) and Tyler Gant (Zach); his daughter-in-law April Gant; his grandchildren, Jonathan Grimes (Autumn), Olivia Grimes and Tabitha Gant; his siblings, Harry Gant (Peggy) and Jean Herman (Don); and his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hager (Jerry) and Brenda Elliott (Stanley).
