He was predeceased by : his parents, Bruce R. Cockrell and Effie Combs Cockrell; his foster parents, Parks Rector and Pearl Rector; his foster brother Donnie Rector; and his stepdaughter Jennifer Elaine Stafford.

He is survived by : his wife Colene Cockrell; his stepchildren, Michael "Brace" Warren (Jean) and Teresa Ann Womack (Mark); his half-sister Priscilla Smith (Loyle); and his foster brother E. D. Rector (Laura Neil).

The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to Salem Cemetery Fund, 4005 NC Hwy 16 N, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
