He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Lubie Cannon, Sr. and Katie Ray Ipock Cannon; his wife Janis Witherington Cannon; his aunt Carrie Lee McVicker (William C. McVicker); his stepmother Essie Dee Harris Cannon; and his half-siblings, Charles E. Cannon, Bobby R. Cannon and Alice Cannon.
He is survived by: his sons, Richard Luby Cannon, III (Renny) of Greenville, NC, Kenneth Jeffrey Cannon (Donna) of Cove City, NC and Donald Keith Cannon (Julie) of Smithfield, NC.; his grandchildren, Christopher Scott Cannon (Tiffany) of Winterville, NC, Phillip Michael Cannon of Norfolk, VA, Amanda Jane Cannon Liff (Jonathan Liff) of Denver, CO, Emily Cannon Buckner (Brandon) of Cove City, NC, Lauren Cannon Riggs (Justin) of Cove City, NC, Chelley Godwin of Raleigh, NC and Chip Cannon (Jacqueline); his great grandchildren, Ian Buckner of Cove City, NC, Eli Buckner of Cove City, NC, Abigail Buckner of Cove City, NC, Landon Riggs of Cove City, NC, Madeline Riggs of Cove City, NC and Sofía Cannon of Clayton, NC.; and his half-brother Donald Cannon (Hazel) of Ayden, NC. He is also survived by six nieces and nephews.
