He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph Coy Yates, Sr. and Marietta McCauley Yates; and his brothers, Randy and Donald Yates. He is survived by : his children, Cynthia Johnston (Josh) of Mooresville, Joseph Yates, III of Boone and Joshua Yates (Jessica) of Boone; his siblings, Daniel Yates (Sherry) of Sugar Grove and Joanetta Huffman (Tony) of Butler, TN.; and his grandchildren, Benjamin Yates of Mooresville, Cameron Yates of Boone and Makayla Yates of Boone.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
