He was predeceased by: his stepfather Vernon Smothers. He is survived by: his daughter Hannah Grace Nichols of Euless, TX; his parents, Joyce Aileen Smothers of Wake Forest and George Nichols; his stepmother Marie Nichols of Zebulon; and his siblings, Georgeanna Welch (Ricky) of Lubbock, TX, Carol Riddle (William) of Wake Forest, Terry Pulley (Connie) of Wake Forest, Cheryl Pearce (Jamie) of Louisburg and Dr. James "Jimmy" Pulley (Vicky) of Wake Forest. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
