He was predeceased by: his wife Daphine; his son James Lawrence Hicks; and his siblings, Virginia Hicks, Mary Grace Ivie, Ellen White, Frances Medlin, John Hicks, Richard Hicks and David Hicks.

He is survived by: his children, Miriam Pollard (James) of Clayton and Danny Hicks of Wake Forest; and his brothers, Frank Hicks (Darlene) of Salisbury and Ronnie Hicks of Wake Forest.
