He was predeceased by: his father Clayton Whitson; and his brother Dennis Whitson. He is survived by: his mother Fern Miller Whitson; his wife Geraldine Whitson; his daughters, Alicia Shelton (Tim) and Hannah Gosnell (Garland); his sisters, Angie Byrd (Tony) and Mista Whitson (Joe); his grandchildren, Tyler Shelton, Boone and Corey Gosnell; and his siblings' children, Lyle Byrd and Lydia Singer.
