He was predeceased by: his parents, James Ed Merritt and Estelle Bowen Merritt. He is survived by: his wife Ada Marie Ellis Merritt; his children, Charles "Randy" Merritt (Marie) of Whiteville, Selma James "Jimmy" Merritt (Shelley) of Whiteville, Carrie Lynn White (Kenneth) of Whiteville and Wendy Marie Alley (Chuck) of Whiteville; his grandchildren, Laura Beth Owens (David), Grant Merritt, Ramona Stubbs (Kevin), Chris McDonald (Katie), Matthew McDonald, Tyler McDonald, Lindsey Register (Spencer), Bradley Merritt and Allyssa Alley; and his great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Cannon, Bryson, Lyla, Eli, Cameron and Connor.
