He was predeceased by : his former life partner Mary. He is survived by : his wife Bonnie Kotyuk; his stepson Nathaniel Kotyuk (Melissa); his grandson Matthew Kotyuk (Jessica); his son Chris Pierson (Amy); his grandchildren, Peyton and Ryan; and his daughter Tracy Pierson (Kent Alphin).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit and the Jimmy V Foundation.
