He was predeceased by: his parents, William Lincoln Smith of Goldsboro and Leatha Edgerton Howell of Kinston; his sister Jennie Smith Lassiter; his brother-in-law Melvin Lassiter of Kinston; and his nephew Michael Lassiter of Kinston.
He is survived by: his wife Jane Reid Smith; his children, Dana Flye (Pete), Kathy Wrenn (Keith) of Roxboro, Susan Brumfield (Steve) of Stantonsburg, Bill Smith (Rose) of Charles City, VA and Stephen Glover (Denise) of Elm City; and his niece Amy Lassister Hardin (Jeff) of Lewisville. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
It is with heavy hearts the family announces his passing after his valiant fight with Alzheimer's.
