He was predeceased by: his parents, James Walter Ruffin and Sudie Crudup Ruffin; and his siblings, Almeta Sharpe, Lena Eason, Betty Taylor, Alma Gray Harris, Pauline Artis, J. B. Ruffin and Henry Ruffin.
He is survived by: his daughter Minister Annie Hines (Curtis) of Walstonburg, NC; his grandchildren, Lakisha Perkins, Shawnya Jones (Steven), Yalonda Hines of Winterville, NC, Tamika Moore (Dacian) and Shenquella Hines; his siblings, Mary White of Walstonburg, NC, Sandra Merritt (Theodore) of Gaskins Lake, VA, Hilda Mayo of Wilson, NC, Roosevelt Ruffin of Kenly, NC and Dan Winslow Ruffin (Dorothy) of San Diego, CA; and his sister-in-law Madie Ruffin of Black Creek, NC. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
