He was predeceased by: his wife Inez Jenkins Anderson; his son John "Jay" Wesley Anderson, III; his parents, John Anderson and Sallie Sledge Anderson; and his sister Dorothy Moore.

He is survived by: his children, Lisa Rebecca Anderson of Wilson and William Neal Anderson (Michelle) of Wilson; and his grandchildren, William Neal Anderson, Jr., Katherine Leigh Anderson and Rebecca Leigh Price.
