He is survived by: his wife Bessie Cameron Ellis; his children, JoAnn Williams (Lorenza), Kenneth Ellis of Wilson, NC, Johnnie James Ellis, Jr. and Michael Barnes (Sonia) of Larchmont, NJ; and his siblings, Martha Inman of Wilson, NC, Josephine Mercer of Wilson, NC, Mary Mercer of Wilson, NC, Barbara Jean Smith (McArthur) of Middlesex, NC, Sarah Winstead of Elm City, NC and Sylvester Mercer of Wilson, NC. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
