He was predeceased by: his daughter Bridgette Howell; his parents, William Godwin and Lessie Earp Godwin; and his siblings, Annie Lee, Ernestine, Minnie Susan, Larry, Jimmy, Walter, Bobby and Kenneth.
He is survived by: his wife Cynthia "Granberry" Godwin; his son Jimmi Joe Godwin (Lisa) of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Reese Godwin, Caroline Howell, Ethan Godwin, Kenan Howell and Cooper Howell; his sisters, Joan Brantley (William) of Rocky Mount and Brenda Anderson (Reid) of Wilson; and his son-in-law Kenny Howell of Wilson. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
