It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Durwood Earl Sykes of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, who passed away on March 21, 2025, at the age of 77, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Leroy Sykes and Dorothy Paige Moore Sykes. He is survived by: his siblings, William Leroy Sykes, Mary Mavrolas, Linda Yunaska (Robert) and Dorothy Carol Darrenkamp; his godson Leo Poulin; and his siblings' children, Roy Sykes (Donna), Jon Darrenkamp (Loretta), Stephen Darrenkamp (Shelby), Eric Darrenkamp (Kim), Kyle Yunaska (Celia), Lamone Patronis (George), Sheree Mabe (Geoff), Sophia Mavrolas (Brent), Vanessa Mavrolas (Nathan), Victoria Poulin (Phillipe), Lara Trump (Eric) and Andrea Peterson (Robert). He is also survived by great nieces, great nephews and wonderful cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Durwood's honor to the Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina (https://boysandgirlshomes.org) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a veteran's organization of your choice.
