He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray Messmer and Minnie Messmer (Jahner); his sisters, Annie and Mary; his siblings-in-law, Ted, Marvin Messer and Jackie Messmer; and his nieces, Cora Messmer and Mary Messmer-Rosario.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Hoerner; his children, Chet (Janet), Stephanie Halvorson (Thomas) and Mandy Wardner; and his grandchildren, Tate Messmer (Sarah), Bismarck, Morgan Messmer, Jessica Keller, Jayden Keller, Paige Keller and Capin Wardner. He is also survived by five sisters and four brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton or Assumption Abbey.
